Paul Amos Schumann, 86, passed away May 9, 2022, in Kalona, at the home of his daughter.
Paul was born Sept. 9, 1935, in rural South English, Iowa, to William and Ruth (Grove) Schumann. Paul attended South English Elementary School and also Kinross High School.
Paul was married to Dorothy Burkholder on June 1, 1956, at the Wellman Mennonite Church. Paul was a lifetime farmer. He enjoyed his family and working on the farm. He was an active member of the Wellman Mennonite Church.
He served in the 1-W Service in Des Moines at the Methodist Hospital as an orderly, worked with Mennonite Disaster Service, and hosted Fresh-Air children and exchange students.
Paul is survived by six children: David (Grace) Schumann of Wellman, Debra (Darrell) Kudobe of Mount Pleasant, Wesley (Brenda) Schumann of Dickinson, N.D., Delwin (Pamela) Schumann of Des Moines, Beverly (Stephen) Stude of Brewster, Minn., and Candelina (Curtis) Helmuth of Kalona; 17 grandchildren: Kristin (Ben) Peiffer, Tonia (Shawn) Poole, Kyle Kudobe, Rachel (Barron) Davis, Emily (Zach) Sunderland, Joshua (Ashley) Schumann, Jacob (Jacque) Schumann, Nathaniel (Cydney) Stude, Nicholas (Briana) Stude, Matthew Stude, William Schumann, Hannah Schumann, Cierra Helmuth, Niva Helmuth, Jaimee Helmuth, Molly Helmuth, Makayla Helmuth; and 14 great-grandchildren.
Paul was preceded in death by his parents; wife: Dorothy; and brother: Harold Schumann.
A funeral service was held Friday, May 13, 2022, at the Wellman Mennonite Church in Wellman. Burial was in the Wellman Mennonite Cemetery. A memorial fund has been established for Wellman Mennonite Church or Iowa City Hospice.
