Photos and results: State Track, Day 2

Mid-Prairie's Jayden Stafford won the 800-meter boys wheelchair race Friday at the Iowa High School Track & Field Championships in Des Moines, capturing the first of his four events in a personal-record best.

Stafford, a three-time state champ in 2023, will go after three more state titles Saturday in the 100, 200 and 400.

Friday's action included relay teams from Mid-Prairie, Lone Tree and Highland.

Mid-Prairie Results 

To kick off the day the team of Dakota Mitchell, Emma Lueck, Greta Sieren, and Danielle Hostetler placed 4th in the 2A 1600m sprint medley relay with a time of 4:09.79. Mid-Prairie was just edged out by Tipton’s four-person team who placed 3rd in 4:09.58.

In the boys high jump sophomore Josh Turner cleared the bar at 5-11.00 to place 21st and in the girls 100m hurdle prelims senior Behla Schmidt placed 18th in 16.54.

Needing a top eight finish in the 4x100m relay prelims to move on, the Mid-Prairie team of Dakota Mitchell, Myli Hershberger, Emma Lueck, and Jovi Evans placed 8th in 50.45 to qualify for the 4x100m relay finals on Saturday.

Hillcrest Results 

Taking part in his second state field event was sophomore Owen Scott. Going from the long jump yesterday to the high jump today, Scott placed 14th after clearing the bar at 5-11.00. 

Lone Tree Results

The same four person Lady Lion team of Addison McCullough, Ava Christofferson, Rylee Shield, and Vivian Zaruba competed in three relay races on day two.

First up was the 1600m sprint medley relay where they placed 19th in 4:29.72. 

Then they ran in the 4x200m relay, placing 5th in 1:48.30.

They ended their day in the 4x100m relay prelims, placing 10th in 51.66.

On the boys side the team of Pietro Setti, Ethan Bockelman, Ethan Burke, and Domonic Garcia raced in the 4x100m prelims, placing 14th in 44.97. 

Highland results 

The Huskies made their first appearance on day two, racing in the girls 4x100m relay prelims. The team of Hailey Brun, Alexa Hahn, Lilly Barre, and Grace Prybil placed 16th in 52.42.
