The 44th annual Pleasantview Home Benefit Sale gets underway Friday, October 22, with the barbecued chicken dinner, serving from 4:30- 8 p.m. The sale starts at 6 p.m. in the Kalona Sales Barn.
Entertainment, by the Great Bluegrass Herons is at 8 p.m.
The main sale is always Saturday. Things start with the pancake and sausage breakfast at 6 a.m., served until 1 p.m.
The auction starts at 10 a.m. and continues until every item is sold. For Saturday, there is special music set for 6:30 p.m.
As usual, there is a very good collection of quilts, all of which are displayed prior to selling. The always popular home-cooked meals for six to 12 people, served in local homes, are part of the auction lineup. Of course, there is a great deal of food.
Items are donated by churches, individuals and businesses. Auctioneers also donate their services, as do the local banks, who handle the clerking duties.
Proceeds from this year’s sales will be for the purchase of commercial washers and dryers for the Home.
Some special items are a 100 KW Katolight generator (208 volt, three-phase with only 715 hours), and a new Amana deluxe 15 cubic foot freezer from the Appliance Barn. Kalona Builders Supply has donated a 7 ft. picnic table, Freedom Security Bank a collection of Amish-made furniture and Hills Bank Kalona, a Triple Irish Chain quilt.
Throughout the sale, food is available in the Sales Barn lunchroom and ice cream and pie will be sold from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m.
