Pleasantview campus taking shape

Taking a drive through the Pleasantview campus these days may necessitate the use of a road map! It certainly requires careful driving, as the roads surrounding the campus are being reconstructed and the additions continue to take shape.

Much of the visible activity began in early April on all sides of the campus. Upon completion in 2024, the goal is for Pleasantview to feature several things: a 16-bed Memory Care unit; a 28-apartment Assisted Living complex; a stand-alone Friendship/Community Center to comfortably accommodate 100+ persons; a six-bed Medicare Suite (post-acute care) unit, along with an adjoining Therapy Center; a relocated commercial kitchen and resident dining space; a bistro for public use; and numerous smaller renovations to enhance “living in community.”

For those living immediately north of the Pleasantview campus, the noise of construction may awaken them on any given morning, as prep work continues on the Memory Care unit, which will be connected to the current facility. An additional feature of this addition is a courtyard for resident and family use and enjoyment. It also means the relocation of the ambulance entrance, as well as wider passageways for service and delivery trucks.

The Memory Care unit will also feature a meditation room, common space, additional dining, and a sitting area for residents and visitors.

Work has begun on the east side of campus as well.

The new Assisted Living facility (located on the upper two levels of Pleasantview’s original building) includes other improvements as well, such as a new lounge and renovated dining space. Additional parking space and a new entrance to the building are the notable exterior improvements.

All renovations and new construction will include updated and state-of-the-art features.

Throughout the project, Pleasantview continues to offer exemplary care in Independent Living (58 units) and long-term care (currently licensed for 57 beds, soon to be increased to 70). The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) has declared Pleasantview a 5-star facility for three consecutive quarters. Numerous facilities have received 5-star status throughout the state, but Pleasantview is one of just five organizations in Iowa to receive total 5-star status across the board. The ratings include health inspections, staffing and quality measures.

The Kalona and surrounding communities are important to Pleasantview, and it is with deep gratitude to the community for the support offered. Continued support is most welcome and appreciated. As the organization’s Mission Statement declares: Pleasantview is “a welcoming faith-based community that supports healthy living and quality of life.”
