The Wolves hoped to keep their spotless season rolling when they arrived at the Kalona Golf Course for their conference dual against Hillcrest, but the Ravens proved to be too formidable of a foe.

A perfect record no more, Hillcrest gave Winfield-Mount Union their first loss of the season, 180-197, on April 22.

Medalist honors belonged to Hillcrest sophomore Rowan Miller who shot a three over par, 39. Liam Schrock was the next highest placing Raven, carding a 44 to tie for second place.

The other golfer to tie for second place was W-MU senior Carter Loyd who also shot a 44. Justin Knipfer, a W-MU freshman, placed 5th in the individual standings with a score of 50.

Seth Ours and Ethan Yoder also gave the Ravens some strong performances. Outs placed 4th with a 46 and Yoder, with his best score of the season, shot a 51 to place 6th.

Freshmen Rylan Good and Matthew Chalupa round out Hillcrest’s scoring by ending with scores 53 and 55 respectively.

With this win the Ravens improved their record to 8-8.

Wapello Invite

It was a runner-up finish for the Ravens at the Wapello Invitational taking place at Heritage Oaks Golf and Country Club on April 17.

Winning the team championship was the Winfield-Mt Union Wolves who ended with a score of 348. Hillcrest captured second place with a final score of 357.

Despite not coming out on top in the team standings the Ravens did have a golfer claim meet medalist honors. Shooting a three over par 75, standout sophomore Rowan Miller placed first overall at Wapello.

Seth Ours and Liam Schrock also gave Hillcrest a couple of top ten finishes. Ours finished with 88 to claim fourth and Schrock carded a 90 to tie for sixth place.

The Bob Schmadeke Invitational

Making the long trip to the Town & Country Golf Club in Grundy Center, Hillcrest competed in the Class 2A Bob Schmadeke Invitational on April 20.

Eight teams competed and with this event taking place so early in the morning it was a cold one. Despite the cold all golfers showed tremendous grit to stick it out and play all 18 holes.

Taking the team championship was Grundy Center with a first-place score of 330. The Ravens ended with a score of 375 to place 5th.

Leading the Ravens was Rowan Miller and Liam Schrock. Both Miller and Schrock shot a team best 86 to tie for 10th place. Ser Ours was the next top performer for Hillcrest, carding a 92 to place 22nd.
