Ravens travel to Central College for indoor meet

The Hillcrest track and field teams took part in its second indoor track meet of the season when they traveled to Pella to participate in the Central College Indoor High School Track and Field Meet. This indoor meet was a two day event, March 17-18, with the boys taking part in events on Friday and the girls competing on Saturday.

 

Hillcrest boys Results 

For the Hillcrest boys track and field team freshman Owen Scott had an impressive showing with his jumping ability. Placing top ten in both the long jump and the high jump, Scott set new personal bests in those events.

He was able to clear the bar at six feet in his third and final attempt to grab second place in the high jump. In the long jump, his best jump was his second jump and it came in at nineteen feet three and one half inches, which was good enough to earn him fourth place. 

Scott also participated in the 60 meter dash and the 200 meter dash. He finished the 60 meter with a time of 7.93 which put him in 81st place out of 205 competitors. In the 200 meter he posted a time of 25.76 to place 49th out of 193 other participants. 

This indoor meet at Pella was Hillcrest sophomore Jesse Blossom’s first time competing in a track and field meet. Blossom took part in the 800 meter run and finished with a time of 2 minutes and 31 seconds. This time placed him in 29th place. He also ran in the 1600 meter run and finished with a time of five minutes and 37 seconds to claim 13th place. 

 

Hillcrest girls results 

There were three girls for Hillcrest that competed in the Central College Girls Indoor High School Track and Field Meet. 

Sophomore Delaney Shaw was the top performer for Hillcrest at this indoor meet. Shaw took 15th place in the long jump with her farthest jump coming in on her third attempt which measured in at 13’7.75”. She also took part in the 400 meter dash, clocking in at 1:13.45 to place in 35th. The last event she participated in was the 200 meter dash. Her time for the 200 meter was 31.54 and placed 86th. 

Sophomore Morgyn Nafziger competed in the shot put event. Her farthest throw was her first one and the shot put traveled 6.78 meters, this throw placed in 45th. In the 60 meter dash, an event that doesn’t happen during outdoor events, Nafziger finished with a time of 8.86 seconds to come in 31st place. Her time for the 200 meter dash came in at 32.32 and this gave her a placement of 106th place. 

Erin Bontrager, also a sophomore, set a new personal best time in the 200 meter dash. Running the 200 meter in 33.86 she was able to finish in 137th place. Bontrager also competed in the 60 meter dash. She completed the 60 meter with a time of 9.78 seconds to come in 103rd place. 

Next up on Hillcrest’s track and field schedule for the boys will be traveling to Mediapolis High school on April 4 for the Dave Aamodt Relays. For the Hillcrest girls team they will be on the road at Williamsburg High School to compete in an invitational against 16 other schools on April 4.
