Deadline to register in person for the November 16 Local Option Sales Tax (LOST) election in Washington County is 5 p.m., Friday, November 5. Any mail-in registrations received after November 5 must be postmarked by November 1 to be eligible.

Residents of Washington County not currently registered may to so at the county auditor’s office in the courthouse in Washington or in the offices of the city clerks in Brighton, Kalona, Wellman, Riverside and Washington or at DOT driver’s license stations. The auditor‘s office is open weekdays from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. and until 5 p.m. November 5. Since office hours of the city clerks vary, it is advisable to call in advance if registering there.

Those currently registered to vote in Washington County, but who have moved to another address within the county, may change addresses at the polls election day with proper identification. It is advised, though, that changes be made prior to November 5.

Registered voters wishing to vote by absentee ballot may do so in person in the auditor’s office weekdays before November 16, between 8 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. or by sending a signed request to the County Auditor, Box 889, Washington, Iowa 52353, indicating voting residence and address to which the ballot should be mailed.

For more information, call the auditor’s office, 319-653-7777.
