Born March 19, 1921, in rural Williamsburg, she was the daughter of John Curtis and Ocie Vay (Martin) McCallister. She was reared near Williamsburg and attended Country School #8 in Troy Township. She graduated from Williamsburg High School in 1939.
Reita Arlene Butler, 78, of Kalona died Friday, June 4, 1999, in Mercy Hospital, Iowa City, following a brief illness.
Memorial services were June 8, 1999, in North English Christian Church, North English, with the Reverend David Boshart officiating. Her ashes will be buried in Lutton Cemetery near North English following the services.
Born March 19, 1921, in rural Williamsburg, she was the daughter of John Curtis and Ocie Vay (Martin) McCallister. She was reared near Williamsburg and attended Country School #8 in Troy Township. She graduated from Williamsburg High School in 1939.
She married Isaiah Carmichael Butler May 1, 1941. The couple lived on the Butler family farm near Millersburg until moving to North English in 1972.
Mrs. Butler worked as an assistant cook several years in the North English Senior Center. She also did baby-sitting for many years. She moved to Parnell October, 1984.
She attended the Community Church near Millersburg, North English Christian Church, and, most recently, West Union Mennonite Church near Parnell.
She moved to Pleasantview Home in Kalona in December, 1996.
Survivors include five daughters, Janet Anderson of Northglenn, Colorado, Nancy Butler of Iowa City, Lois Reed of Kalona, Mary Mills of Lincoln, Nebraska, and Melinda Clemmer of Golden, Colorado; one son, Benjamin Butler of Kalona; eight grandchildren, four great-grandchildren; four brothers, George McCallister and Daryle McCallister of Williamsburg, Donald McCallister of Marion, and William McCallister of Marengo, and two sisters, Ruby Schwarting of Vinton and Eileen Wagner of Williamsburg.
She was preceded in death by her husband in 1979, her parents, two brothers, Hugh Curtis McCallister and Wayne McCallister, and one sister, Opal Conn.
Powell Funeral Home in North English in charge of arrangements.
