WASHINGTON
Following a written arraignment filed February 27 by his attorney, Reuven Miller, 39, of Kalona will have a pretrial hearing at 10:30 a.m. March 13 with a jury trial set for 9 a.m. March 25.
Miller was not present in court Friday, but in the written filing demanded a speedy trial.
Arraignment for Miller was February 28 in Washington County District Court, following earlier filing of formal charges February 11. The charges resulted from an incident that occurred January 28.
Miller told law enforcement that he had a bomb in a Kalona residence and used it to try to set the house on fire with his father still inside. The device contained fireworks, and the official court document reported nine exploded but did not ignite the house.
Miller was subsequently arrested and taken into custody in Iowa City on two Washington County warrants, charged with arson (a Class B Felony), first degree harassment, and interference with official acts. Bond was set at $100,000 and he was remanded to the Washington County Jail.
