Visitation was Wednesday, May 5, noon to 9 p.m., in Peterseim Funeral Home, Kalona. The family will be present from 3-5 p.m. and 6:30-9 p.m.
Born August 30, 1935, in Johnson County, Mr. Sleichter was the son of Ralph and Erma (Flynn) Sleichter. He graduated from Kalona High School in 1954 and was a farmer. He was born, raised and died on the family farm.
Richard Sleichter, 63, of rural Riverside died Monday, May 3, 1999, following a lengthy illness.

Born August 30, 1935, in Johnson County, Mr. Sleichter was the son of Ralph and Erma (Flynn) Sleichter. He graduated from Kalona High School in 1954 and was a farmer. He was born, raised and died on the family farm.
He served in the United States Army from 1958-1960, and married Nancy Loveless September 18, 1960 in Washington County.
Mr. Sleichter was a member of the Masonic Fellowship Lodge, the Corona Chapter # O.E.S., Sharon Center, and was instrumental in forming two organizations promoting Allis Chalmers farm equipment. With his family, he collected and exhibited the antique tractors.
Survivors include his wife, Nancy, one son and daughter-in-law, Randy and Mary Sleichter, North Liberty; two daughters and sons-in-law, Sandra and Kelly Lien of Castalia and Cindy and Mark Kraus, Ames; one grandson, Trygve Richard Lien; two brothers and one sister-in-law, Carroll and Jo Sleichter, Iowa City, and Daniel Sleichter, Chaska, Minnesota, and four sisters and two brothers-in-law, Dora Kallaus, Dortha Chapek and Norma and Earl Fry, all of Kalona, and Edith and Phillip Moorhead of Marion.
He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother, Vern Sleichter, and two brothers-in-law, Paul Chapek and Robert Kallaus.
Memorial donations may be made to the Kalona United Methodist Building Fund.
