Riverside History Center and Voyage Home Museum holds Annual Meeting

Posted

Eleven members and volunteers were in attendance for the annual dinner meeting of the RHCVHM on November 15, 2022, held at Murphy’s Bar and Grill.

The Treasury Report was discussed and accepted as presented; the museum had a very good year in 2022.

The museum is expanding into the east suite of rooms at its present location which will ease storage issues.  New display cases will be purchased, and we’ll need additional mannequins.  We’ll be asking local residents to loan veteran uniforms and various memorabilia as the veterans’ display will be among the first to be moved into the new area. Room labels/plates will need to be placed for exhibits.

The museum will be closed from January 1, 2023, to March 1, 2023, except by appointment while the expansion is under construction.

Mary Jane Stumpf found standing displays for posters with prices ranging from $80-150, and the group approved continuing membership in the Iowa Museum Association.  A comment corkboard for articles, notes, and reviews will be added.

The News featured an article about three of our museum volunteers and included mention of the Steve Miller Iowa Public Television interview to be aired sometime next year (11/17/22 issue).  The reprint from the Kearney, Nebraska Hub by Carolyn Scheidies about her recent visit to the museum with her husband and college friends ran earlier in the year (10/20/22 issue).  A big thanks to Alex Ward for setting up the interview and passing on his contact with Carolyn on her article.  Hopefully, we can put something together to announce the opening of the new section in the museum when it is completed.

Motions were made and approved to keep all current officers:  Mike Meinders, Chair; Jenny Duling, Vice Chair; Mary Jane Stumpf, Treasurer; and Alexander Ward, Secretary.  Jenny Duling will also be taking on communications duties, and Chris Kirkwood will be the Public Relations manager.
