Nate Robinson was re-elected as president of the Highland School Board at its annual organizational meeting Monday night.
He represents District 5 and is one of seven members on the board.
Dan Ruth, of District 4, was elected to Vice President.
The two will serve as officers into the 2025-26 school year, when the spots are up for election again, following the November 2025 general election.
The officer positions are voted on by members of the entire school board.
FFA Convention
Sandra Edwards, a junior FFA student, and FFA teacher Shayla Seils presented a report on the recent National FFA Convention to the Board.
Edwards was among seven FFA students from Highland who participated in the convention in Indianapolis.
Students found sponsorships to help cover the $350 needed for the trip.
Official Paper
The Board approved The News as the Official Newspaper of the District, and also approved a number of other items that are included in its organizational meeting.
The Board re-appointed Autumn Moyer as Board Secretary/Treasurer and approved a number of committee assignments, including Robinson, Monica Jepson and Rachel Longbine to the Finance and Personnel (negotiations) committee, Dan O’Leary and Ruth to Builds and Grounds, and Robinson and Jepson to Board Policy Review.
The Board approved Hills Bank, Farmers and Merchants Savings Bank, and UMB Bank Kansas City as the district’s financial institutions.
A Hills Bank representative awarded the district with a check of more than $1,100 for its Classroom Cash program.
Board Action
The Board approved early graduation for Elizabeth Rodgers and Zachary Thompson, pending meeting requirements.
The Board approved a number of policy updates, including a new policy on temporary memorials and naming rights.
The Board approved the resignations of Shannon Hills, varsity volleyball coach; Logan Moeller, junior high basketball coach; Jessica Krotz, Elementary associate.
Next Meeting
The board will hold its next formal meeting at 5 p.m. December 9. A work session is scheduled for November 25.
