A private family service was held in Peterseim Funeral Home Friday, December 17 with Chaplain Judy Gingerich of the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics officiating. Burial in Sharon Hill Cemetery, Kalona, followed the service.

Family and friends are invited to a celebration of his life Saturday, December 18, from 2-5 p.m. in the family home at 1232 Tyler Court, Iowa City.

Born December 6, 1939 in rural Parnell, he was the son of Gerald and Nellie (Hall) Bender. He graduated from Kalona High School.

Ronald “RB” D. Bender, 60, of Iowa City, died Wednesday in his home following a brief illness.

Born December 6, 1939 in rural Parnell, he was the son of Gerald and Nellie (Hall) Bender. He graduated from Kalona High School.

Mr. Bender married Bonnie McKray January 13, 1962 in Iowa City.

He was a supervisor at Moore Business Forms, Iowa City, until retiring in 1995. He was a member of First Presbyterian Church, Iowa City, past member of the Kalona Golf Club, Kalona Odd Fellows and a member of the Iowa City Moose Lodge.

Survivors include his wife, Bonnie, of Iowa City; two daughters and sons-in-law, Deb and Terry Strabala of Kalona and Shellie and Steve Krotz of Riverside; two grandsons, Nate and Justin Strabala; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Gene and Phyllis Bender of Wellman and Deon and Kathy Bender of Parnell; one sister, Rosalie Luedtke of Iowa City, numerous nieces and nephews; and his step-mother, Rose Bender of Kalona.

Mr. Bender was preceded in death by his parents and one nephew, Bryan Bender.
