Russell D. Hotz, 83, of Lone Tree, passed away on Monday, July 28, 2025, at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics. Visitation will be held on Saturday, August 2, 2025, from 10:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m. at the Lone Tree American Legion. Funeral services will follow at 12:00 p.m. at the American Legion. Burial will be in the Lone Tree Cemetery. Following the committal service, a time of food and fellowship will be held at the Lone Tree American Legion. Memorials may be directed to the Lone Tree Fire and Rescue in memory of Russell. Online condolences may be left at www.sandhfuneralservice.com. Russell Duane Hotz was born on December 15, 1941, in Iowa City, Iowa the son of Ernest J. and Mayme L. (Weber) Hotz. He was a 1960 graduate of Lone Tree High School. On June 6, 1962, Russell was united in marriage to Doris Goody in Hills, Iowa. Russell was hardworking and dedicated farmer in the Lone Tree area his entire life. He was a member of the St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Lone Tree, Johnson County Farm Bureau and past member of Johnson County Pork Producers. Russell was a man of integrity, he loved his family and has a passion for farming, in his life he raised pigs and grew soybeans and corn. He also enjoyed yard work and puzzles.
Russell will be deeply missed by his son, Rodney (Ammie) Hotz of Lone Tree; grandchildren, Tiffany (Brandon) Bilek of Lone Tree and Chris (Ashley) Neal of Virginia Beach, Virginia; great grandchildren that he adored; sister, Beverlyn Bontrager of Iowa Tree; brothers-in-law, Jim (Dorothy) Goody of Iowa City and Ron See of Solon; sisters-in-law, Deline (Robert) Greazel of Atalissa and Joan (John) Greazel of Iowa City and many nieces and nephews.
Russell was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Doris; sister, Patricia See; brother-in-law, Richard Goody and nephew, Melvin See.
