Ruth (Brenneman) Hershberger, 96, of rural Wellman, went to be with the Lord on Sunday, June 12, 2022.

Ruth was born June 2, 1926, in Stuttgart, Arkansas, to Manas and Lydia (Miller) Brenneman. She grew up in rural Kalona, and attended Prairie Dale School, where she enjoyed writing, drama, and singing. At a young age, she trusted in Jesus Christ as her Savior.

On Jan. 28, 1948, she married James Arthur Hershberger, and they farmed together until his death in 1992. Though Ruth’s primary occupation was as a homemaker, she also worked at Reif’s, Greene Center Bookstore, and Pleasantview Home. She volunteered at the Crowded Closet and Pathway Christian School. Ruth was involved in Prison Fellowship for many years, where inmates enjoyed listening to her play the harmonica. Ruth was always very active at Upper Deer Creek Church, serving on the sewing committee, teaching Sunday school and vacation Bible school, and working as a youth leader.

Ruth is survived by her five children: Wayne (Elaine) Hershberger, Linda (Bob) Adams, Barbara (Lynn) Bender, Sharon King, and Connie (Kevin) Holman; 15 grandchildren; and 38 great-grandchildren. She cherished each one and spent much time praying for them.

Ruth was preceded in death by her parents; 11 siblings; her husband of 44 years; and son-in-law: David King.

A celebration of life service will be 11 a.m., Thursday, June 16, 2022, at Upper Deer Creek Church, rural Wellman.  Visitation will be from 4-7 p.m., Wednesday at the church.  Burial will be in the Upper Deer Creek Cemetery.
