The Ravens once again made their presence known on the state scene as Hillcrest golf made it back to state for the second time in the past three seasons and through two days of fierce competition they captured a top five finish.
Led by the exemplary individual runner-up play of Liam Schrock, the Ravens ended with an overall score of 668 to finish fourth in a 12 team field at the IHSAA 1A State Golf Championship meet at the South Hills Golf Course in Waterloo taking place from May 27-28.
Winning the state championship with a first-place score of 618 was Boyden-Hull. South Winneshiek was the runner-up with 638 and Woodbine was third with 656.
Hillcrest’s ever dependable senior leader Liam Schrock put together a spectacular performance for his finale as a Raven golfer.
Shooting 75 on day one and then 71 on day two, Liam Schrock finished with a runner-up score of 146. He sunk two eagles on day two to finish just one stroke more than the individual champion, Hamburg’s Keith Thompson.
Another Raven to soar at state was Rowan Miller. The standout junior finished day one with 76 and 77 on day two to end with a combined score of 153 to place eighth.
The sophomore duo of Ryland Good and Lawson Schrock made up the back half of the team score. Good finished with 183 to place 56th and Lawson Schrock placed 61st with 186. Fellow sophomores Matthew Chalupa and Ethan Yoder placed 72nd and 79th respectively with overall scores of 192 and 198.
Another productive and exciting season of Hillcrest golf comes to an end and in the offseason they say goodbye to their lone senior, Liam Schrock.
