Settlement accepted, formal action next week

Within an approximately 15-minute special session Monday, August 21, Washington County Supervisors approved a settlement and purchase agreement with L & L Acres LLC for nearly 16.5 acres of right of way (ROW) easements along Dogwood Avenue, a part of the McKain’s landing grading project.  Formal action on the required resolution is set for the August 29 meeting, allowing time for the advertising-required Public Hearing at the regular supervisors meeting Tuesday, August 22.

According to County Engineer Jacob Thorius, the landowners signed the purchase agreement August 19, after the supervisors’ closed session of August 15 with attorneys for both parties that led to authorizing the settlement with a few agreement revisions, including tree salvage, in the initial agreement.

Supervisors at their June 27 meeting had unanimously approved six resolutions to purchase six parcels of land, totaling then about 10.83 acres in Dutch Creek and Clay Townships  for the county’s Dogwood Avenue Project from owners Brian and Jennifer Stevens and several members of the Waterhouse Family totaling $186,320.  The price was part of a condemnation proceeding of the agricultural land and included covering “damages” involved in moving ponds, acquiring fill dirt and other work for permanent easements.  Additional meetings with the local landowners followed.   The project, which may start this fall, is to improve road safety at the McKain’s Landing area as well as for Dogwood Avenue with grading and related work.
