Kevin Orris, 65, of Washington, received a prison sentence of up to 30 years in a contested sentencing December 2, 2022, in Washington County District court.
In September 2021, he was charged with Sexual Abuse in the Third Degree, a Class C Felony, and Incest, a Class D Felony, following an investigation by the Washington Police Department.
Authorities had learned Orris repeatedly committed sex acts with his daughter (whom he and his wife adopted in 2009), between 2016 and 2012. On two occasions, Orris impregnated his daughter, and each time helped her get abortions.
On September 2, 2022, Orris pled guilty to six counts of Incest, each a Class D Felony, symbolizing each year the committed sex acts against his daughter. He also agreed to admit that his daughter was a dependent adult, meaning he will be on the Sex Offender Registry for 10 years.
At the December 2 sentencing, Orris requested probation; Washington County Attorney John Gish argued for consecutive prison sentences. In its recommendation to the court, the Iowa Department of Corrections proposed Orris go to prison for the maximum extent possible under the law. The court agreed with Gish and the department, sentencing him for up to 30 years.
Connective sentences means when one five-year sentence is done, Orris must serve the next sentence until he is done serving prison on each of the six convictions.
