Shirley Walker, 85, of Riverside, passed away Saturday, Jan. 1, 2022, at her home in Riverside.  Visitation will be held Wednesday, Jan. 5, 2022, from 4-7 p.m. at the St. Mary’s Hall next to the St. Mary’s Church in Riverside. Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 6, 2022, at the St. Mary’s Hall.  Burial will be in the Riverside Public Cemetery. Memorials may be directed to the Washington County Hospice or the Riverside Elementary Playground Fund in memory of Shirley.

Shirley Ann Hora was born Oct. 16, 1936, the daughter of Clarence and Frieda (Mullinnix) Hora.  She was a graduate of Conesville High School.  On May 21, 1955, Shirley was united in marriage to Mearle Walker in Muscatine. 

She worked as a nurse’s aide at Oaknoll in Iowa City and later was a secretary and teacher’s aide at Highland Community Schools while also taking care of her husband and children at home. 

Shirley was a member of the Trinity United Methodist Church and she enjoyed baking and decorating wedding and graduation cakes, cooking and ceramics, but most of all, she dearly loved to spend time with her family, especially the grandchildren.

Shirley will be deeply missed by her husband: Mearle of Riverside; her children: Dennis (Corrine) Walker, Dean (Bonnie) Walker, Terry (Jill Schnoebelen) Walker and Janice (Eric) Walker McColloch, all of Riverside; nine grandchildren: Derek (Nicole Stewart) Walker, Jordan Walker, Bonnie Trujillo, Anna (Dustin Ilmberger) Walker, Emily Walker, Nick (Aimee Kirkpatrick) Spurgeon, Kendra (Jason) Allen, Alex McColloch and Danielle (Xavier Balderas) McColloch; 10 great grandchildren; sister: Mary Jones of Columbus Junction; brother-in-law: Grant Stalkfleet of Muscatine; and sisters-in-law: Monie Hora of Wilton, Mildred Hora of Bennett and Frances Musser of Lone Tree.

Shirley was preceded in death by her parents; grandson: Brad Walker; brothers: Joe Hora, Leo Hora and Frank (Pat) Hora; sisters: Marjorie Charlier and Rita Stalkfleet; and sister-in-law: Rubye Walker; and brothers-in-law: Kenneth Musser and Ray Jones.
