Songfest ‘99, set for Sunday, August 22, at the Wellman Mennonite Church, features a varied program of musical performers and selections. The program, which starts at 6:30 p.m., will be preceded by a pie and ice cream social at 5 p.m. The event is sponsored by the Council of Mid-Prairie Churches.

Congregational singing will be led by Wallace Brenneman and vocal soloists are Betty Nicholls (Asbury United Methodist) singing I Walked Today Where Jesus Walked; Theresa Hill (St. Joseph’s Catholic) Nearer Than Before; Oneth Lovetinsky (Sharon Center United Methodist), Somewhere on Your Knees, and JoAnn Orthel (Kalona United Methodist).

Naomi Tyer (First Baptist, Wellman) will play a medley of hymns on the vibraharp and Audrey Nissley (Lower Deer Creek Mennonite) will play Angel Band on the accordion. Curtis Kron (Holy Trinity Catholic, Richmond) will play Allegro, O Come Little Children and Twinkle Little Star on the cello.

Michelle Kron (Holy Trinity) will play Concerto in A Minor, 3rd Movement on the violin.

The Kalona Mennonite Men’s Quartet, consisting of Stanley Swartzendruber, Mahlon Leichty, Ed V. Miller and Wallace Brenneman, will sing I’m Redeemed and Jesus Paid it All. The Earth Vessels of Wellman Mennonite Church, consisting of Liz Miller, Joette Droz and Bethany Shetler, will sing Heaven Medley and The Rock of Faith is Jesus.

The program concludes with the Shiloh Singers, led by Chuck Rogness and Jay Montgomery, singing Mercy and King of Kings. Other performers will include Barbara Troyer, organist and Lois Yoder, pianist, both from Wellman Mennonite.

Henry Miller, elder from Wellman Mennonite, will give the opening prayer.

Proceeds from the event will be donated to the Morgan Ebel fund.
