The State Fair Singers and Jazz Band program seeks high school musicians and sound technicians for auditions for the Iowa Tour ‘99. The ensemble performs in approximately 30 Iowa communities and at the Iowa State Fair.
Auditions are March 13 and 20 in Decorah, March 17 in Spencer, March 18 in Urbandale and March 19 in Cedar Rapids. Iowa high school students in grades 10-12 may apply by submitting an application by March 1. Forms are available from high school music directors or by calling Brenda K. Jans, program coordinator at Luther College, Deborah, 319-387-1009, e-mail sfsjb@lutehr.edu.
The cast of 20 singers and dancers, 17 instrumentalists and one sound technician will rehearse at Luther College, then tour Iowa July 2 through August 8, concluding with performances at the State Fair August 12-22.
The State Fair Singers and Jazz Band is sponsored by Luther College, the Des Moines Register and the Iowa State Fair. Additional funding is provided from GTE, Kephart’s Music Centers, Inc., the Fred Maytag Family Foundation and the Mark C. Falb Family Foundation.
