Due to COVID-19 pandemic closing schools, the State Speech competition scheduled for Saturday, March 14, in Grinnell, will now be held in schools on Friday, July 17.
As of July 1, the Iowa High School Speech Association has released guidance and given permission for the qualifying students to compete in mini-contest at their own school.
The Mid-Prairie Mini-Contest will be closed to the public due to an abundance of caution with COVID-19 still being present in the community.
This contest will happen within the parameters of social distancing, masks or face covering, thorough and frequent sanitizations and health screening. The participating students will still have the opportunity to earn All-State nominations from the three judges that will be present. The All-State nominations will be announced by the IHSSA at the beginning of the upcoming school year.
The Mid-Prairie students who earned a Division 1 rating at the district competition in Pekin on Feb. 29, and qualified to compete at State Contest, are:

•Elizabeth Meader in Storytelling.
•Trevor Nida in Interpretive Prose Reading.
•Marina Richardson in Storytelling.
•Emily Righter in Radio News Broadcasting.
