Wellman City Council members authorized City Manager Kelly Litwiller to sign an agreement with the Iowa Department of Transportation (IDOT) that would replace a bridge crossing Smith Creek on 9th Avenue in Wellman, also known as County Road Ginkgo Avenue.
Litwiller said the estimated cost of the project is $1.4 to $1.5 million, with the city responsible for engineering and design costs. The state will pay up to $1 million of the construction costs and retains the right of final approval of both the design and engineering proposals. Litwiller said the future project is likely two to three years away.
Litwiller said the Washington County Engineering and Secondary Roads Department has offered to assist with planning the bridge, which would defray some of the city’s expenses.
In other business, the council approved a floodlight at 210 11th Street to illuminate a section of the trail at North Park.
Council members affirmed an increase in spending limits for city administrators. Litwiller and Mayor Ryan Miller were authorized to spend up to $5,000 without seeking council approval.
Wellman agreed to contract with the Culpepper & Merriweather Circus for a show in August of 2022.
