High winds were the primary threat Monday night as a line of strong storms swept across eastern Iowa. Locally, 55 mph winds were recorded at 6 p.m., pushing temperatures that reached 91 two hours earlier down to 67 in a matter of minutes. Power outages occurred in Riverside, darkening gas stations near Highway 218.
In anticipation of severe weather, many events were cancelled for the evening, including Washington State Fair events after 4 p.m., and Riverside’s City Council meeting was postponed.
