Students and teachers appreciate supplies donated to Federation Bank’s annual drive

Posted

Teachers from West Elementary School gathered inside Federation Bank in Wellman to pick up school supplies on Friday, August 19.  The school supplies were donated by local community members during the bank’s annual school supply drive.

“They say they use every bit of it,” Kent Karnes, Personal Banker at Federation Bank, said before the teachers arrived.

The table in front of him was filled with supplies, including backpacks, tissues, dry erase markers, pencils, highlighters, glue, crayons, and notebooks.

“We try to contact the school before we do it to see what they need the most.  They usually give us a list and we go from there,” Karnes said.

According to Karnes’ records, the bank’s school supply drive dates back at least to 2006.  Every branch of Federation Bank has a drive and brings the supplies to local schools.  They collect supplies from community members for about a month each year, from mid-July to mid-August.

“We’ll let it go through August,” Karnes notes.  “We usually tell people if they still want to drop off [supplies], I’ll just take it out to the school.”

Some individuals prefer to donate cash to the supply drive, which is also welcomed.  In addition to the supplies, the teachers at West Elementary also received $170 in cash donations.  They can use the money buy supplies as needed throughout the year.
