Junior Josh Pickard, sophomore Marshall Swartzendruber, freshmen David Rhodes and LeDru Miller earned soccer letters from Northwestern College in Orange City.
Pickard, Swartzendruber, Rhodes and Miller attended Iowa Mennonite High School and participated in IMS’s soccer program.
Pickard was NW’s goalkeeper. Pickard had four shutouts and averaged nine saves per game. Men’s soccer coach Steve Walhof said, “Josh’s work ethic has proved him one of the best goal keepers in the conference. He was all-conference honorable mention this past season, recording a career high 135 saves and four shutouts.”
Swartzendruber put together six goals and ten assists for the Raiders of NW.
Coach Walhof said, “Leading the conference in assists and tied for second on the team in scoring, Marshall was named all-conference honorable mention as a sophomore.”
“We haven’t seen the best year from Marshall, we only look for him to get better and better.”
Rhodes was fourth on the team in scoring and tied for second in assists with four.
Coach Walhof said, “David is a very explosive player that will only get better with time.
Dave played most of the year with a broken foot which slowed him down just a little.”
In NW’s match-up against Buena Vista, Miller assisted the final goal of the game which brought the Raiders to 5-0 victory.
Coach Walhof said, “LeDru is a very hard worker. He played most of the season with a broken toe.
He is relentless and will never give up.”
NW’s soccer program, in its fifth season of varsity competition, compiled a record of 7-9 overall, 1-7 in the conference.
