Well, the Highland girls basketball team did it. They won their first conference game of the season to Louisa Muscatine, 45-37, Jan. 11.
“This was our best game of the year. We also had balanced scoring in this game,” said Coach Jerry Lippert.
Lippert said his bench also played well.
Things didn’t look good for Highland when they entered the game. Senior forward Randi Johnson broke her wrist in practice last week and is done for the season.
But Lippert’s players responded.
Krista Burich posted a double-double finishing the game with 13 points and a career high with 11 boards.
Senior Jenny Sweeting scored 14 points, had six rebounds, three assists and seven steals to lead Highland.
Michelle Ossman added seven points.
The Huskies shot 40 percent from the field.
Highland’s defense forced a 14-1 run in the second quarter.
Highland improved to 4-7 and 1-5 in the conference.

Highland falls to Mediapolis
The Huskies lost to Mediapolis, 69-26, Jan. 14.
Coach Lippert said, “Mediapolis is a good ball team. We were outmanned. The kids got tired.
We missed Randi Johnson,who is out with a broken wrist.”
Highland stayed with in reach the first quarter and only fell behind by two points, 8-6.
But Mediapolis pulled away in the second quarter and at halftime led, 29-10.
Sweeting had nine points, five steals, three assists, and six rebounds.
Burich followed with six points and eight boards while Michelle Ossman added six points and four rebounds.
