Tracy Eugene Anderson was born May 18, 1938, in Rock Rapids, Iowa, the eldest child of Eugene and Ethel (Neilson) Anderson.  He graduated from Washington High School in Cherokee in 1956.  He graduated from Iowa State Teachers College in Cedar Falls in 1960 and received his Master of Arts from State University of Iowa in 1961.  He taught English and Social Studies at Mid-Prairie High School for five years before going back to college where he graduated with a Juris Doctor from the University of Iowa Law School in 1972. 

Tracy was united in marriage to Patricia Capper on Aug. 30, 1959.  He served as the Washington County Attorney for two years right out of college and had a practice in Kalona until his retirement in 2018. 

Tracy was a member of the Kalona Rotary (Paul Harris Fellow), Kalona Library Board for 40 years,  Mid-Prairie School Board and the Grantwood AEA Board.  Tracy was instrumental in campaigning for several bond issues in Kalona including the swimming pool and Kalona Public Library. 

He enjoyed reading, playing racquetball and tennis, studying history and spending time with his family. 

Tracy passed away Sunday, Aug. 7, 2022, at Pleasantview Home in Kalona at the age of 84 years.

He is survived by his wife: Patricia; three children: Cary (Cindy) Anderson, Jay (Lora) Anderson and Vicky (Luis) Guillen; five grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; two brothers: David (Eunice) Anderson and Gene (Jean Ann) Anderson; a sister: Linda Phelan; numerous nieces and nephews; long-time secretary and family friend: Carol Mayer; Bud and Kim Juilfs family; Henry and Ila Miller family; Norma Wright family; and Ed and Carol Miller. 

Tracy is preceded in death by his parents; a sister and brother-in-law: Anne and Jim Dodge; and a brother-in-law: Ron Phelan.

Visitation will be Friday, Aug. 19, 2022, from 4-7 p.m. at Yoder Powell Funeral Home, Kalona.  The Anderson family is having a private family celebration of life memorial service.  A memorial fund has been established for the Kalona Public Library and Iowa City Hospice.  Yoder Powell Funeral Home is caring for Tracy and his family.
