Wrestling season officially started practice this week, and two area wrestlers started the year off with some recognition in the rankings.
Isaac Boucher placed sixth at 195 pounds in Class 2A last season, finishing on the podium. He will start this year with a No. 2 ranking at the 195-pound weight class in rankings done by IAWrestle.com.
The 195-pound class has seven of 10 ranked wrestlers as seniors.
In Class 1A, Highland junior Bryce Thompson is at No. 7 at 106 pounds. Thompson, who wrestled at Lone Tree the previous two seasons, has made the district tournament two seasons in a row. He won four weekend tournaments last season and finished third in the SEISC at 106 pounds.
The first day of practice was Nov. 18 with the wrestling regular season kicking off on Dec. 2. The first competition for Mid-Prairie is Dec. 3 at Eddyville-Blakesburg-Fremont. The first contest for Highland will be at Mid-Prairie on Dec. 5.
