Virginia was born May 12, 1940, to George and Velma (Henderson) Brown of Iowa City. After graduating from Iowa City High School, she attended Augustana University in Rock Island, Illinois. Virginia married her high school sweetheart, Ron Stutsman, on July 31, 1960, at Sharon Center United Methodist Church. While Ron finished his last two years at Iowa State, Virginia worked for ISU in the Placement Department.

Virginia had the greenest of thumbs. When not tending to her flowers or lawn, she was involved in Project Green, a board member of the State Federated Garden Club, and spent considerable time helping the extension office as an Iowa Master Gardener. She combined her passion for gardening and 4-H by chairing the garden and communication departments at the Johnson County Fair for many years. Ron and Virginia’s joint commitment to 4-H had them inducted into the Iowa 4-H Hall of Fame in 2007. She was also involved in the Sharon Center United Methodist Church, Eastern Star, PEO-Chapter KQ, State Questers, Octagon Barn Questers, and served as a tour guide for the Kalona Historical Society. Virginia was an avid bridge player and enjoyed the many hours spent with her bridge friends. Together, Ron and Virginia enjoyed playing golf, especially being able to play in 50 states over 30 years. They also loved spending winters in Fountain Hills, Arizona with many great friends.

Virginia will be remembered for her quiet strength, her determination, and her dignified demeanor. Most of all, she will be remembered as a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother, and friend.

Virginia is survived by her husband: Ron; sons: Mark (friend JoAnn) Stutsman and Scott (Donna) Stutsman; four grandchildren: Tyler (Amanda) Stutsman, Tanner (Paige) Stutsman, Logan (Amber) Stutsman, and Brooke (Wyatt) Cook; and three great-grandchildren: Beau and Blakely Stutsman, and Shea Stutsman. Also surviving are two brothers-in-law: Roger (Sally) Stutsman and Jim (Jill) Stutsman; and three sisters-in-law: Carolyn Holliday, Donna (Terry) Davis and Cathie Stutsman.

Preceding Virginia in death were her parents; two brothers-in-law: Louis Holliday and Bill Tompkins; and a nephew: Michael Stutsman.

The family would like to thank Pam Gerot and the Atrium Village staff for Virginia's excellent and compassionate care over the past few years.
