Visiting during the holiday season

The cold weather has arrived and it can still get to zero. Did you see the big full moon on December 22? David L. Yoder told me it hasn’t been this big for years.

I assume you got over Christmas okay and got your needs met by the gifts you got. Christmas has been big again this year.

We had a Christmas card from the Samuel Nafzigers in Canada. He is 86 and she 85 and was a teacher at IMS years ago.

On the top of the hill by the Appliance Barn, you will see where they built a road on the Wallerich property. Construction is on the east side for the Curt Wyse family.

Mrs. Vernon Brogla was at Pleasantview Home this week. She is very faithful in coming down to visit people. She said her husband reads these lines in the Cosgrove area.

I saw Jared Kinsinger at the hospital. He is one lucky boy. He showed me the slug that hit him in the jaw. It was about the size of a nickel and they had to remove several front teeth.

Ed and Esther Yoder were in town over the weekend. They are settled in their new home in Horse Shoe Bend, Arkansas. They plan on retiring there, however, Ed says Esther will keep him busy at home for awhile. Also, Mrs. Gaylord Brenneman was a guest of the Marc and Grace Miller family in Frytown.

Our old neighbor in Frytown, Mrs. Florence Eimen, died recently. Our sympathies to the family.

The Wilbur Swartzendruber’s and John Swartzendruber’s were evening dinner guests of ours on December 27th.

Spanish proverb: A handful of common sense is worth a bushel of learning.

Verton Miller treated the coffee club to some of this famous homemade taffy. Did you ever try it?

Darrell Showalter’s spent the Christmas weekend in Des Moines with family members.

The Mike Thompson’s, our new neighbors, stopped in with a plate of goodies. We got better acquainted at that time.

You can’t help someone get up a hill without getting closer to the top yourself.

Word of the Week

The word for the week is canape. During Christmas and New Year’s, you undoubtedly had one- it is an appetizer, such as a piece of toast or cracker topped with cheese or other items. Many times, there are many new items used in an appetizer.
