Deadline to register in person for the November 2, regular city elections in Washington County is 5 p.m. Friday, October 22. Any mail-in registrations received after October 22 must be postmarked by October 18 to be eligible for the November 2 election.
Residents of Washington County who are not currently registered may register at the county auditor’s office at the courthouse in Washington, or DOT driver’s license stations. The county auditor’s office is open weekdays from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. and until 5 p.m. October 22. Since office hours of the city clerks vary, it is advisable to call in advance if registering there.
Individuals currently registered to vote in Washington County, but who have moved to another address in the county, may change their address at the polls election day with proper identification. However, they are encouraged to register the change prior to October 22.
Registered voters wishing to vote by absentee ballot may do so in the Washington County Auditor’s office weekdays, before November 2, between 8 a.m. and 4:30 p.m., or by sending a signed request to the County Auditor, Box 889, Washington, IA 52353, indicating voting residence and the address to which the ballot should be mailed.
