RIVERSIDE

Officials from The Voyage Home Museum and Riverside Area Community Club/Trek Fest are asking for a combined $43,000 in Fiscal Year 2024 funds.

The Riverside City Council heard presentations and requests from the two organizations at its regularly scheduled meeting held Tuesday, Jan. 3. Those requests will considered by the council at its budget work sessions scheduled for Jan. 10 and 24.

A public hearing on the proposed FY24 budget is tentatively set for March 20.

Museum officials are hoping to get $22,000 in the next fiscal year. The museum is in the midst of an expansion that will allow for display of more Star Trek memorabilia, as well as more displays to show Riverside’s railroad legacy and displays of military veterans.

“There’s a lot of cool stuff in there, that’s for sure,” Council Person Edgar McGuire said.

Travis Riggan, Trek Fest 38 chair, asked the City Council for $21,000. Trek Fest is scheduled to take place Friday and Saturday, June 23 and 24, 2023, with possibly an additional event to take place June 22.

The annual parade, featuring yet unannounced Star Trek celebrities, will take place June 24.

Next board meeting: The City Council will hold its next regularly scheduled meeting at 6 p.m. Jan. 17.

Budget work sessions: The City Council will meet at 6 p.m. Jan. 10 and 24 to discuss the Fiscal Year 2024 budget.
