PROCEEDINGS OF THE WASHINGTON COUNTY BOARD OF SUPERVISORS MEETING
TUESDAY, DECEMBER 3, 2024
At 9:00 a.m. Chairperson Richard Young called to order in regular session a meeting of the Washington County Board of Supervisors which took place in the Washington County Courthouse. Items on the agenda included the following: Pledge of Allegiance; approval of agenda; public comment related to agenda items; personnel change request – Secondary Roads; letter of support for 4-H Enterprisers Club creek naming efforts for an unnamed creek on the east side of Riverside; change request - Orchard Hill Remodeling Project; compensation rates for employees of Washington County Ambulance Service; department head comment; adjourn. Supervisors Bob Yoder, Jack Seward, Marcus Fedler, and Stan Stoops were also present.
Other individuals in attendance included Kalen McCain with the SE Iowa Union along with County Attorney Nathan Repp, Deputy Auditor Tammy Stewart, Ambulance Director Jordan Wright, Chief Deputy Sheriff Shawn Ellingson, Board of Supervisors Administrative Assistant Amber Williams, and Washington County Soil and Water Conservation District Commissioner Kate Giannini. Various other individuals listened and/or watched remotely by way of electronic means.
Young led the individuals that were assembled in reciting the Pledge of Allegiance.
All motions were passed unanimously unless noted otherwise.
On motion by Stoops, seconded by Yoder, the Board voted to approve the agenda as published.
There was no public comment.
On motion by Fedler, seconded by Seward, the Board voted to acknowledge, and authorize the Chairperson to sign, a personnel change request from Secondary Roads for full-time non-exempt Equipment Operator Garren Stacy whose final day of employment will occur on December 6, 2024.
Washington County Soil and Water Conservation District Commissioner Kate Giannini addressed the Board and described the efforts of the Riverside Enterprisers 4-H Club to see that an unnamed 2.5-mile stream, which runs along the eastern edge of the City of Riverside and eventually empties into the English River, becomes named as “Lincoln Gate Creek. Giannini described the various steps involved in the process of naming the stream and requested a letter of support from the County for the naming of the stream. She stated that such a letter would accompany the application along with a letter of support from the Riverside City Council. Giannini added that the proposed name will honor the area’s historical importance to the local timber industry and also as a nod to former President Abraham Lincoln who was known for his ability to split wooden fence rails. On motion by , seconded by , the Board voted to approve a request from the Riverside Enterprisers 4-H Club for a letter of support related to renaming efforts for an unnamed 2.5-mile stream which runs along the eastern edge of the City of Riverside and eventually empties into the English River.
On motion by Seward, seconded by Fedler, the Board voted to acknowledge, and authorize the Chairperson to sign, a change request dated November 26, 2024, for the Orchard Hill Remodeling Project resulting in a decrease of $1,538.88. According to Fedler the change order involves modifications to five exit door devices.
On motion by Seward, seconded by Fedler, the Board voted to approve proposed FY25 compensation rates for employees of Washington County Ambulance Services. The new rates are listed below.
There was no department head comment.
At 9:15 a.m. on motion by Stoops, seconded by Yoder, the Board voted to adjourn.
