PROCEEDINGS OF THE WASHINGTON COUNTY BOARD OF SUPERVISORS MEETING MONDAY,
FEBRUARY 24, 2025

At 9:00 a.m., Chairperson Richard Young called to order in regular session a meeting of the Washington County Board of Supervisors which took place at Orchard Hills. Items on the agenda included the following: Pledge of Allegiance, approval of agenda, public comment related to agenda items, personnel change request – Emergency Management, approval of Washington County official seal, approval of change order for Orchard Hill regarding film to doors for Board of Supervisors hallway, Department Head comment, adjourn.
Supervisors Bob Yoder, Jack Seward Jr., Marcus Fedler and Stan Stoops were also present.
Other individuals in attendance included Kalen McCain with the SE Iowa Union, Mary Zielinski with The News, Emergency Management Coordinator Marissa Reisen, and Board of Supervisors Administrative Assistant Amber Williams. Various other individuals listened and/or watched remotely via Zoom.
Yoder led the individuals assembled in reciting the Pledge of Allegiance.
All motions were passed unanimously unless noted otherwise.
On motion by Stoops seconded by Yoder, the Board voted to approve the agenda as published.
There was no public comment.
On motion by Yoder, seconded by Fedler, the Board voted to acknowledge, and authorize the Chairperson to sign, a personnel change request from Emergency Management to terminate the employment of Coordinator Marissa Reisen, effective March 28, 2025. Motion passed four to one with Stoops voting nay.
On motion by Seward, seconded by Stoops, the Board approved the county seal design as presented to be the official seal of Washington County, Iowa.
On motion by Seward, seconded by Stoops, the Board voted to approve, and authorize the Chairperson to sign a change order in the amount of $1,590.52 for adding privacy film to doors for the Board of Supervisors hallway at Orchard Hill.
During Department Head comment, Supervisor Seward gave an update on the sunset recommendations report for Mental Health and Disability Services regarding board members terms which end at the end of April 2025. Seward also updated the Board regarding the data request from Iowa Health and Human Services (HHS). There still is no clear language to be used for the waiver to accompany the data request. This item is still on hold pending additional information.
Supervisor Fedler gave a brief update on the status of Orchard Hill Building 2 stating that additional data drops were still going in as well as the possible need for an additional camera and various other small items. The courthouse remodel is on schedule to start in the next week.
At 9:18 a.m. on motion by Yoder, seconded by Fedler, the Board voted to adjourn.
