The Washington County Supervisors conducted individual interviews on Feb. 17 with all applicants for the county attorney position vacated by John Gish, who took a leadership position with the state Attorney General’s office last month.  Gish had been re-elected to a third term in November 2022.  The new appointee would serve until the next general election in 2024.

The candidates interviewed were Shane McChurch, Nathan Rapp, and Zachary Miller.

Shane McChurch is the current assistant county attorney for Washington County.  He has five years of experience with the county and had been an intern in the county attorney’s office during his senior year at University of Iowa College of Law.  He lives in Kalona.

Nathan Rapp is an assistant county attorney for Scott County with several years’ experience.

Zachary Miller has been with the state victim unit in the Attorney General’s office in Des Moines for several years.  He officially lives in West Chester.
