Washington County SWCD receives grant for creek, watershed signs

Posted

Washington County Soil and Water Conservation District (SWCD) is among 33 counties set to receive signs raising awareness of the state’s creeks and watersheds. The signs will be installed in partnership with the Washington County Secondary Roads Department through the County Creek Sign Grant program at the Iowa Department of Natural Resources. This program provides funds to conservation and natural resource groups to install creek and watershed signs on county roads or city streets within priority watersheds. Washington County received nearly $10,000 to install creek signs that identify the English River and Long Creek.

“We all live in a watershed, and local creeks and rivers are an important part of our personal and collective histories,” states, Kate Giannini, Washington Co. SWCD Soil Commissioner “It is my hope these signs bring awareness of our water networks, create better understanding of water quality issues, and sparks more conservation adoption.”

The project is set to kick-off in the fall of 2022 and conclude by December 2023.  For more information, please contact Washington County Soil Commissioner Kate Giannini at kateg@highlandhunting.com.
