Investigation continues into a reported shooting that occurred at 8:10 p.m. January 7 when Washington County Communications dispatch received a 911 call from a male saying he had been shot.
Officers found that victim a few blocks from downtown Washington. He had a single gunshot wound. He was transported by Washington County Ambulance Service to the University of Iowa hospital in Iowa City.
Kenneth R. James, 41, of Coralville was identified by Washington Police as the victim. According to police and the Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation, James reported he was in the parking lot of Woodbridge Apartments, 601/603 West Adams Street, Washington waiting for an acquaintance when a lone male approached the driver’s side of James’ vehicle and fired one shot into the window, hitting James in the left torso.
James left the area, eventually crashing his vehicle at the intersection of South Iowa Ave and East Monroe Street where he called 911.
Anyone with information is asked to contact the Washington Police Department at 319-653-2107. Police said there is no threat to the public.
