The Wellman City Council on Monday, March 21 adjusted the price on an existing five-year contract for mowing grass that better reflects this season’s soaring fuel prices.
The contractor who currently maintains the grounds at the city’s North Park approached council members earlier this year with a proposed increase to cover higher fuel costs.
Council members agreed the contract signed this past year was insufficient to cover the current price of gas and added an addendum to their contract that would pay an extra $150 for each time the grass was mowed.
Several council members praised the contractor’s work at the park and expressed appreciation for the extra work that made the park increasingly attractive to visitors.
In other business, council members discussed pending improvements to the sound system at the skating rink and heard complaints from a resident about a lack of street signs in his neighborhood.
Washington County Deputy Sheriff Randy Tinnes introduced two new deputies who will soon assist in patrolling the county. They are Deputies Noah Schlabaugh, a Mid-Prairie High School graduate, and Robert Stewart, a former law officer from Arizona.
