Wellman Family Practice brings health to Wellman community since 2011

Soon after earning an Advanced Registered Nurse Practitioner degree from the University of Iowa College of Nursing, Meagan Squiers chose Wellman as the ideal location for her practice.

Squiers and her husband, Bob, opened Wellman Family Practice in 2011 and the business on 8th Avenue has grown into a Wellman favorite that is open five days a week and includes six employees. Among those are Corrie Swartzentruber, an Advanced Nurse Practitioner from the University of Iowa Hospitals & Clinics, and Dani Hagist, a Registered Nurse.

“Over the last 10 years I have enjoyed working with the Wellman community, as well as the communities around the Wellman area on health promotion and disease prevention,” Meagan Squiers said.

Squiers sees a wide range of patients at Wellman Family Practice, from newborn babies to adults. The practice’s patient services includes physical examinations and well child exams, blood work, immunizations and medication management.

“I enjoy working with people to optimize and maintain their physical and mental health,” she said.

Squiers works with the University of Iowa’s College of Nursing as adjunct faculty in the precepting and training of future nurse practitioners.

Squiers graduated from Clarke University in Dubuque with a Bachelor of Science degree in nursing. She worked as a bedside nurse for 10 years, then went to the University of Iowa’s College of Nursing for post-graduate work. She graduated in 2009 with an ARNP degree.

Swartzentruber, who is also an Iowa ARNP graduate, sees patients on Tuesdays at Wellman Family Practice. Her specialties include internal medicine and anesthesiology.

As the promise of spring’s warm weather arrives, Squiers hopes to see her patients out and about.

“As spring approaches, I would love to see adults and kids get outside and be active,” she said.
