The newest addition to Wellman’s financial services, Wellman Federal Savings at 801 6th St., has its Grand Opening this week.

During the week-long event, visitors may sign up for daily drawings and the grand prize one (for a 25-inch television), as well as meet the staff, tour the facility and enjoy refreshments.

During the event, the bank has a special Certificate of Deposit (CD) offer: a 12-month term with a 4.91 rate that provides a 5.02 APY. Minimum amount for the CD is $l,000.

Drawings

“We have five daily drawings,” said Quint Harmon, vice president and managing officer. “There will be two $20 gift certificates and three items (such as candy-filled mugs).” Some also will contain skate passes for the Wellman Recreation Center.

Selections will be made at the end of each business day with winners called.

Besides the television, there will be a drawing for a free skate party at the center.

A division of Washington Federal Savings, the local office’s present building at 6th St. is “temporary,” said Harmon.

Future plans include a possible new facility.

The full service bank opened its Wellman office November 23, and Harmon joined it January 1.

He had previously been with the Prospect Federal Savings in Chicago, “but I grew up in a small farming community west of Chicago,” he said. As a result, he is well acquainted with the needs of a farming and rural area.

In addition to Harmon, there is a staff of four employees: Angela Statesman, Brenda Murphy, Carissa Yoder and Sally Whetstine, all serving as personal bankers.

Besides offering full financial services, Wellman Federal Savings is fully Y2K compliant at this date, said Harmon.

Patrons may conduct business at either Wellman or Washington offices.

The goal is to be a “community bank,” Harmon noted, with services available six days per week.

The Federal Savings Bank has approximately $100,000 million in assets and is both an Equal Housing Lender and a member of the FDIC.
