Six Wellman Garden Club members gathered in the Asbury UMC Fellowship Hall at noon on Thursday, Dec. 21 for their Christmas luncheon. After the blessing, they enjoyed a delicious lunch of creamed chicken and biscuits, coleslaw, and tapioca salad, with apple or chocolate pie for dessert. Janet Stutzman was their caterer, an excellent cook and a gracious hostess.
After our meal, they had a brief business meeting. Their program was Christmas stories read by Pam and Marilyn. The first one was produced from an AI program that was told to create a funny Christmas story for older women who enjoyed plants, and it was pretty entertaining, considering it wasn’t even written by a human.
A second story told of a Christmas dinner that cost too much, and finally Marilyn read, “You Won’t be Home for Christmas?” It reminded the club members of the stage of life they are at, where children are grown, married, and have their own families, leaving them to share their kinship with others.
After singing four Christmas carols, they were reminded that their next meeting is not until Feb. 15 at the Senior Center. They will eat lunch there at noon, and after lunch have a “Show & Tell” program where they share something interesting about themselves with the group.
