Wellman residents enjoyed the birth of a new tradition on Friday, Dec. 17 when they gathered downtown for Light the Night, the lighting of the city’s Christmas tree.
“Thank you everybody for coming tonight,” said Wellman mayor Ryan Miller. “This is something we hope to do every year.”
The event, held in Bidwell-Slockett park, also known as the mini park, featured cookies and hot cocoa to be enjoyed while the crowd waited for the tree, provided by Kalonial Tree Service, to be illuminated.
Sponsors for the event included Mid-Prairie Transportation, City of Wellman, Wellman Chamber, Wellman Skating Rink, BJ’s Café, Wellman Family Practice, Precision Structures Incorporated, Kalonial Tree Service, Freeman Foods, Best of Iowa, Federation Bank and Hills Bank.
