Wellman Mayor Wilbur Swartzendruber said Monday night, that he is looking forward to meeting “face to face” with Triax Cablevision attorney Jane Bremer at 12 noon, Monday, June 28, at the Westfield Inn in Coralville.
Triax Cablevision’s franchise for the City of Wellman expired June 28, 1998. Swartzendruber said Bremer has failed to return his calls.
“She’s never been up against a little old farm boy (like me),” the mayor said. Purpose of the meeting is to introduce some 13 area towns involved in Triax Cablevision’s sale to MediaCom.
“It’s my goal for Wellman (through the Wellman Telephone Company) to own the cablevision franchise,” Swartzendruber stated, noting the city already owns the gas franchise and has a local telephone company.
Swartzendruber noted that since the cablevision franchise ran out, Wellman has the legal right to have the first opportunity to purchase the system. However, MediaCom is asking twice as much per customer as Wellman is willing to pay.
