WELLMAN
Business was brief for the Wellman City Council Monday night with just three action items on their agenda. They made quick work of it, setting a public hearing for Monday, Nov. 18 to amend provisions of the Code of Ordinances regarding service rate changes; waiving a right to review a plat of survey for a property owner parceling off a section for family to build on; and agreeing to move forward on an LTD pump station connection to Wapello Rural Water.
City Administrator Kelly Litwiller noted that the city sent 600 letters to homeowners last week at the behest of the DNR regarding water service lines. Homeowners, not the city, are responsible for their service lines from the meter to the water main, she said, and the DNR requires residents be provided information about reducing exposure to lead in drinking water.
At the conclusion of the Nov. 4 meeting, council member Shannon McCain expressed discontent with coverage by The News predating the Nov. 5 General Election.
“I don’t think it’s right that The News put on the front page – huge, beautiful front page – about Democrats and everything, who was running and whatnot, and didn’t have time to put anything like that together for the Republicans,” he said. “I would not expect something like that from a small town.”
The Wellman City Council will next meet on Monday, Nov. 18 at 5:30 p.m. at City Hall.
