The City of Wellman and the Wellman Chamber will host Trunk or Treat in downtown Wellman from 6-8 p.m. on Sunday, Oct. 31. Cars will line up starting at City Hall and continuing down to the bottom of 8th Ave, offering treats and goodies out of their trunks to the trick or treaters.
“We are trying something new this year,” said City Administrator Kelly Litwiller. “We’ve always done the Fall Harvest Party down at the skating rink, so this is taking place of that this year.”
Litwiller said she wants residents to know that door-to-door trick-or-treating is still encouraged and available; if people want to turn on their porch light and hand out candy from their homes, they are more than welcome to do so.
Litwiller said 16 cars have already signed up for Trunk or Treat, including the fire department and ambulance. The city is still accepting more participants and anyone interested is welcome to be involved.
Free hot dogs, chips and water will be provided, in addition to all the candy and treats available from each participating car. There will be music playing and even a backdrop for kids to take pictures with.
There will also be prizes for best costume and best trunk design, awarded at 7 p.m.
“We wanted to try something new for the kids,” Litwiller said. “We’re excited and we think it will be great. We’re hoping to get as many people involved as possible.”
