Brent Yotty, son of Doug and Janice Yotty of Kalona, won a $100 savings bond for his winning essay in a contest sponsored by Farmers Savings Bank as part of their celebration of 100 years in business.
Laura Conaway and the other teachers in the 7th Grade Team at Mid-Prairie Middle School developed an outline for the essay which 15 students chose to write.
The essays, titled “Banking - One Hundred Years of Change”, were to follow the following format:
I. What is banking?
II. Early years/changes/progress in banking (1900-40);
III. Middle years’ changes (1940-70);
IV. Recent changes (1970-present);
V. Importance of banking in the community;
VI. Changes in banking in the future.
Identities of the essays’ authors were kept confidential during the judging process.
