A great first quarter for the Mid-Prairie music department

The 5th grade band held a very successful meet and greet to start out the year with their director, Shawn Sandersfeld. It was great to see so many excited young musicians ready to start their band careers. 5th grade band now gets to meet every Thursday during the school day, and Mid-Prairie is thrilled for those students.

The Middle School band and choirs had great performances at the Fall Festival and are preparing for their winter concerts. Mid-Prairie welcomed Jennifer Zeglis to the fine arts faculty as the new middle school band director.

Three middle school choir students, under the direction of Luetta Ropp, have been accepted into OPUS, the middle school level of All-State Choir. The Mid-Prairie community is so proud of them and wished them luck in their performance in November at Ames.

The High School Marching Band, under the direction of David Kunz, had a great time playing for the football team, and received a Division I (Superior) rating at the State Marching Band Contest in Pella. They also competed at the West Liberty Marching Invite and received first place there, along with first place for hornline. On the same day they traveled to Muscatine to compete in that invitational and received second place, along with awards for outstanding drum majors and outstanding drumline.

The High School Jazz Band has been asked to perform for the Corridor Jazz Project, which culminates in a professional recording and concert in Iowa City this coming spring.

The musical cast of Into the Woods , under the direction of Christy Meader, Lisa Helmuth, and Collette McClellen, is eagerly gearing up for their performances November 3, 4, 5.

High School Choir students, under the direction of Collette McClellen, had great performances during Fall Festival in September. Eleven students participated in the Conference Choir Festival, plus another 11 freshmen students participated in an honor choir at Central College. All the HS choir students are now preparing for the 30th Annual Madrigal Dinner, to be held December 8, 9, 10.

As it is the 30th Annual, we will be having an ALUMNI night on Saturday, December 9th. King Jack Greiner and Queen Phoebe Shetler invite you all to join in the festivities. Any former students that come to the show on Saturday will be invited to participate. Tickets for both the Madrigal Dinner and the musical can be purchased at mpdrama.booktix.com.
