Culvert replacement closing 190th Street west of Louisa Washington Road

Posted

On Monday, November 13, 2023, weather dependent, Washington County will begin the replacement of a corrugated multi-plate culvert on 190th Street. This structure is located approximately four hundred feet west of Louisa Washington Road and will result in the road being closed to through traffic for the duration of the project. This work is being done by Washington County forces and will remove the existing rusted out and failing fourteen-foot multi-plate culvert, originally installed in 1952, with a new fourteen-foot multi-plate culvert.

The new culvert will be relocated slightly to the west, to better align with the existing waterway and will be longer, to provide a wider road top for the traveling public to safely move through the area. The new structure is expected to have a sixty- to seventy-year lifespan.

The work on this project is expected to take about one to two weeks, weather permitting.

County Engineer Jacob Thorius said, “We are trying to take advantage of the dryness and decent fall weather to complete this work yet this year. While we know there is an inconvenience to local traffic with the timing of the road closure, the replacement of this structure now will help ensure we are better able to complete the structure as quick as we can and not have a longer closure when conditions are wetter.”

Drivers are encouraged to avoid the area and use alternate routes to get around. Questions about the project can be directed to the County Engineer’s Office at (319) 653-7731.
