Our leaders need to protect our natural resources

I grew up catching bluegills (and one huge catfish) in the pond behind my house. In high school I started canoeing the rivers in northeast Iowa. I still love spending time outdoors, but these days I have to worry about hazardous water quality.

The failure by our state government to enforce clean-water regulations means a heightened danger of eating contaminated fish and a greater health risk from enjoying our state’s beautiful waterways. I want to keep enjoying Iowa’s lakes and rivers, and I want kids to grow up appreciating the natural world around them.

For that to happen, we need Iowa’s leadership to do their jobs and enforce the laws we’ve already passed – as well as strengthen programs and policies to ensure Iowa’s natural resources are preserved for generations to come.
